My Boiler Isn't Working - What should i do?
This is probably the most asked question we have. Our first answer is don't panic!
When a boiler stops working, it could be 1 of 100 reasons, but we usually find it is the simple ones that are the main cause of a boiler to stop working. Here are a few things to check:
- Is there power getting to the boiler? - Some boilers are installed on a 'RCD' circuit that may have tripped. Check your electrical supply to see if a fuse has blown or tripped. If you are unsure, always seek the advice of an registered electrician.
- Have you got gas on your meter? - We often find that people who are on a gas meter sometimes run out of gas, if this has happened, ensure you recharge your meter with gas credit, turn off your boiler, then turn it back on again. We find that this usually solves the problem.
- Have you turned all controls to maximum? TRVs (Thermostatic radiator valves) and your room thermostat (the control on the wall) to maximum and moved your programmer to constant?
- Is the Pressure gauge showing 1Bar of pressure? In some cases, pressure can drop to the boiler which would cause it not to work. Check that your pressure gague is showing 1Bar of pressure, If it is lower than 1Bar, please give us a call and one of our trained team will give you advice and in most cases, have an engineer attend. Like all cases above, if you are unsure, seek the advise of a professional.
- If none of the above help - please call us on 0800 040 7110 where our trained team are ready to help - NEVER attempt to open your boiler casing or attempt repairs yourself.
